The Simon Snow Series is split into three books: Carry On (which is essentially year seven for Harry Potter, though at the magic school in Carry On goes up to year eight), Wayward Son, and Anywhere The Wind Blows. For Fangirl, Rainbow wrote Cath’s fan fiction about the story, then found herself stuck within the world after Cath’s story had come to a conclusion. Fangirl follows a, well, fangirl named Cath, whose chosen fandom is a thinly veiled Harry Potter knock off: Simon Snow. Rainbow Rowell first started writing about Simon Snow and his adventures in her 2013 novel Fangirl. As a lover of resigned monsters and magical beings with more power than they want, the Simon Snow trilogy feels like it was written for my reading appetite… then I became full… then stuffed. For a while, I thought this book was a contemporary, likely because the cover looked more reminiscent of 2010s contemporary novels than fantasy ones, but once I finally gave in and read the back cover synopsis, I realized the shitstorm of binge reading I was in for.
